Hi Reader,

Now that you've taken time off and you're back to the everyday life and routine (oh the joy of everything mundane πŸ˜…), here's what happened in the social media world while you were away. As always, we bring you only confirmed news and updates so that you never feel lost and don't have to look anywhere else.

Before we dive in, here's what the community has been up to in the summer β›±

Okay, brew a cuppa and read along when you're ready...

Instagram Shenanigans

Reels 2.0

In response to community feedback, Instagram will now allow Reels to be up to one minute in length. Reels first launched with a 15-second time limit in August 2020, and was doubled to 30 seconds a month later. Instagram Reels now last up to 60 seconds. From our experience, Reels have been FANTASTIC for higher reach so don't overlook this buoyant feature 🀩

Hashtags in captions #WhereTheyBelong

For a while there's been a debate if you should put hashtags in the caption or comments? While there should be no difference and while you can still find content from hashtags in the comments "technically", it seems that Instagram now recommends putting hashtags in the captions and NOT in the comments. Because πŸ‘‰ Instagram looks at the keywords and the hashtags in your caption to have your post appear in search.

Say bye to Swipe Up links in Story

This will probably not matter to many of you because this feature wasn't available to you anyway if you didn't have more than 10K followers. BUT this might be good news to you specifically if that's the case because they're replacing it with Link Sticker️. Word on the street is that this feature will be available to any verified account with 50 followers. So, if you're not verified yet, go ahead and do just that.

Sponsored Listings

You can now promote products to appear to all merchants in the app. Think of it like Google Shopping Ads but for Instagram App.

Reels Algorithm

We've shared a video from Adam Mosseri (the head of Instagram) before on Instagram and how the Reels algorithm works and because this is an ongoing debate and to clear all your doubts again. Instagram shared more insights about this dilemma.

LinkedIn The Wise

LinkedIn Stories are gone with the πŸ’¨

This might not be the American classic but it recently promises some reconstruction after destruction ❌ . Stories will be removed from your LinkedIn homepage as of September 30, 2021, as LinkedIn work to reimagine the video experience.

β€˜Reviews’ feature

Your profile might be eligible to start receiving reviews on your products (or services) listings if you've already listed these on your LinkedIn page. This feature is particularly useful for freelancers and service providers (personal opinion ☝️)

Twitter Chatter

Build a loyal audience with Revue by Twitter πŸ’Œ

Have you ever read or paid newsletters? They are not hugely popular among small businesses, but they might be something to consider for "content entrepreneurs". If this intrigues you, check out Revue - Twitter's email marketing platform. As they say, Revue makes it easy for writers and publishers to send editorial newsletters β€” and get paid.

The Super Follows 🐦

What are Super Follows you ask? Their superpower is the monetisation of your content! This a new way for people (well mainly content creators) to earn monthly revenue by sharing subscriber-only content with their followers on Twitter. With Super Follows, people can create an extra level of conversation on Twitter (sharing bonus Tweets and more!) to interact authentically with their most engaged followers – all while earning money.

Facebook πŸ˜’*

A Campaign Ideas Generator

If you're struggling to come up with new and effective campaign ideas for your Facebook and Instagram ads or looking for inspiration, this tool is here to help you overcome those struggles and find inspiration.

* because we have personal issues with Facebook

TikTok πŸ•Ί

A boost-like Promote

The option, as noted, is similar to Facebook’s Boost button, which enables you to amplify your posts by quickly putting together an ad campaign. It's pretty straightforward, you can promote for views, followers or website traffic. And you probably want to know this: TikTok continues to be the most downloaded app and 1 in 4 TikTok users will make a purchase after watching a TikTok.
